Green Screen Movie FX Studio is an incredibly powerful special effects editor that allows you to create Hollywood style movies clips in exactly the way you want.

Unlike other FX applications, Movie FX Studio puts you in control of the Directors chair.

Simply shoot your main video and then add as many special effects as you want.

FX clips can be positioned flexibly with the ability to place them in any order either in front or behind the main video.

Select from 88 FX layers and choose their exact size, rotation and position in your film.

Create your very own FX layers by importing videos from itunes, record or camera roll and add chroma key to your FX if you want.

Create a cloak of invisibility , make your friends fly or create a shrinking spells.

Includes a powerful chroma key editor giving the option of easily removing any colour background to act as a green screen on the main video.

Amazing tweening animation support that interpolates between multiple tweening points giving smoothly animated scale, rotation and position of the FX layers and main video. (In other words, make a huge T-Rex chase you or make an F16 fly through the sky and you choose its flight path).

Render in whatever resolution you import the main video – 1080p, 720 or lower (depending on device).

I just bought this and for some reason it keeps saying “failed to save video please retry”
I usually use after effects and maya/max but this was the easier solution for my kids littlest pet shop videos but ow I’m having to try and fix this and shoot it and edit it on my system….

    • Gavin says:

Ah..it only errors when you use try and shoot the footage to edit. It seems you record the footage first via the ipad camera and import it…I think a fix is required for the other option

      • admin says:

        Hi Gavin,

Yes sorry a fix was already submitted to Apple on Monday for this Sorry! slipped through my testing.

        Regards

Hi Graham, I have a problem while compressing the video. I do the background and everything but it won’t compress and finish what it does with the croma colours, and when I did actually get past that bit it said importing video but I doesn’t work. Please help me ASAP!

          Jessie

          • Jessie says:

And also when it’s “finished compressing” it says disk is full, but I’m using a iPad mini

          • admin says:

Hi Jessie, Have you checked that the iPad has free space the videos do take up a lot of space?

  2. Ben says:

Great app! Will the update also allow import of static user backgrounds from camera roll, like in screen movie fx?

    Ben

    • admin says:

Thanks , I will be starting work on importing your own videos as FX layers soon ( you’ll be able to apply chroma to them as well).

I’m just a lone developer with a day job but will work as fast as I can 🙂

      • Steve Philp says:

It’s awesome that you’re planning to make it so we can put our images on the background. Do you have a rough date for when this might be available?

        • admin says:

The new update is live you can add your own videos as backgrounds and special FX.

If you want to use an image you’ll have to convert it to a video on a computer first.

          Thanks

          Graham

  3. Sergei says:

Very good app, thank you. I think that you should add ability to make own background video.

  4. John says:

I need to add my own FX, actors and backgrounds. How do I import my charactors and backgrounds so they can be used? I was hoping to have an office scene with a green screen animation.

  5. John says:

    Looking forward to the feature.

  6. Lily says:

Can you delete videos you have already made if you can how

    • admin says:

      Hi,

Sure in the main project view. Select the project you want to delete then swipe to the right edge of the list item then back. A delete button should then appear alongside.

It’s the same way as you delete playlists / music in the music app.

      Thanks

Hi, is it posible add a play layer/fx button in the editor, it would be helpfull to play the active layer/fx to see how it acts before compose/rendering, cool if we could mirror the fx ?

I would just love to be able to insert camera roll backgrounds. I am a Grade 4 teacher, and would love to make movies about the inuit. I have a green screen right in the class. How long is the wait for this feature?

    • admin says:

I’m currently working hard on the new import feature and it will be in the next release of FX Studio.

Please review to help support to app!

  9. Ajay says:

Hi Graham! I am a 12 year old film-maker and just got your app a couple of days ago and I love it so much!!!!!!! I have some ideas I think you should add to the app as an update, so here they are:

    *Flipping of fx

    *Putting in your own backgrounds

*Multiple recordings and video at once (for example, if you film two guys fighting at different times but want them to be in the same shot)

*Being able to trim how long certain fx are on-screen for (also if they are made longer in the timeline it would loop. those things would help a LOT)

I hope those points can get into the next update/s 🙂 P.S. I think this app is what I have needed for vfx for a long time 😀 ~Ajay

  10. Ajay says:

Also there is a bug where sometimes your fx isn’t in the right place. hope that helps also 😀 ~ajay

  11. John says:

Nice ap, I too want more features. No iPad video ap does green screen well – if at all. Maybe you and pinnacle can get together and share features. I too need to use my own media, trim and move clips. Can I add sound?

    • admin says:

No sound adding at the moment just whats in the effect layers and main video.

You can trim the main video , but not afterwards. Will add video edit to the list of new features that may come

      Thanks

      Graham

  12. Pstocker says:

Well great work, Graham. Any idea of when these new features will be ready?

  13. Knut D says:

Great job with 1.3, but is there a way to extend a fx?
For example a glass bullet impact, when clip iis longer than the fx, it’s a little funny when the impact disappears before clip ends 😉 can i use tween to do this?

    • admin says:

Afraid not at the moment. was thinking of adding an option to pause on the last frame for the in-built FX (where applicable) and for the imported. Will come in a future update.

  14. Ammi says:

The application is not 1080p but only 720p? L’application n’est pas en 1080p mais seulement en 720p ?

It should support whatever resolution the main video is make sure high quality is selected.

      Thanks

    • admin says:

      Hi,

-Select ‘Move FX’ in the Layer selector.
-Press the three horizontal lines that appear on the layer item you want to move.
-Drag and drop it to where you it behind.

Hope this helps , it’s exactly the same way you’d move tracks in a playlist in the music app.

Hi Graham. This is a really good app, but like other posters, I would like the ability to import my own static backgrounds from the camera roll. I teach, and would like to have the children present work in front of historical backdrops, for example. Is there any chance of this feature coming? Thanks.

    • admin says:

Hi, Thanks for the comments , hopefully I have time to add this a feature in the near future!

    • John in JAX says:

      Good Day Jon,
What ages are your students? I use Pinnacle Studio 15 to turn stills into video. My first safety video used the Lincoln Memorial as a background. (please see the video at http://www.youtube.com/my_videos_edit?video_id=jWvOFC2wa8A&feature=vm&ns=1 )
I took the image from a google search and resized it using a photo editing program on the PC. The iPad version of Pinnacle Studio can use a still as a video background. You must start a new project, grab your photo and drop it on the time line. You will need to drop and drag the photo several times to increase the video length.
After you “Share” the video to a video file FX Studio will find it for further use.

        Hello John

My students are primary age: 4 to 11 years, but I have started using this app with children of 7 years and up. Thank you for your tip. I don’t have the Pinnacle app, however I have managed to do the same type of thing with the iMovie app… Now have video of the pyramids!

Hello fellow directors and producers!! I recently used Green Screen Movie FX Studio in conjunction with other applications to create a safety video for work. FX Studio is a fantastic application to use for hobbyist videography but with a little planning you can produce a good semi-pro video. I normally add titles and credits but since this was for work I left them off.

      • John in JAX says:

I used FX Studio record the robots in front of a green screen. I used the iPad2 to shoot the stills and record the video. After converting the stills to a video background I used FX studio to create the action sequences. I used a PC video editor to trim and combine the scenes, remove unwanted audio and add my own tracks. I like the ability to key out multiple colors, this was necessary at times.

        • Knut Dahl says:

how did you convert stills to video?

          • John in JAX says:

Knut Dahl I meant to reply directly to your post-
This was easily done using video editors, my preference is Pinnacle Studio for the PC, I also have Pinnacle Studio for the iPad but I like the PC version. If this is not feasible you can set up a tripod and video the scene. Maybe we can request a photo to video feature added to FX Studio.

  19. John in JAX says:

How I produced the Widget and Wingnut videos.

Planning – Write the idea- don’t be exact, decide what story you want to tell. In my case it was a safety topic or moral. So now you have a subject, decide on characters, and location. I created a single character and added a second later.
    I build a 5 foot (1.5 meters) x 7 foot (2.1 meters) green screen from fabric.

Write a loose story- (i used script writing formatting but it is not required), speak out load the parts. In front of a mirror or record the parts in your voice. Adjust the script for flow, too many words will bore the audience, I found less words and add background sounds helps to capture their attention.

Record the script – Don’t shoot the video until you are ready to work with the video. I create my audio tracks first and try to break the files into scenes. This way the visuals and audio is in sync. I might shoot practice video if I modify the props (Robot, backgrounds, etc..) The Stair Safety video had eight scenes because of the background changes. This means I shot and edited eight separate files that I combined later.

Keying the characters- FX Studio is a fun program to use but I have found Keying colors can be tricky. There are times I thought I had the colors keyed and after composing, half of my character is keyed out. Once the FX Character is created I can insert him into the background of my choice. Since each scene is only 7 to 20 seconds long I can build the entire video in steps. Corrections become easier to identify and replace.

Note on sound editors – Audio editing is done on the PC using Audacity which is free audio editor. This allows for isolating the desired portions and silencing or deleting sections. The file is then exported as a MP3 file for later use.
FX Studio mixes (muxes?) the audio tracks but for my purposes I will remove the sound in post production to add my clean audio.

    • John in JAX says:

Adding to my comment above- My next video involves a crate (a wooden box). I decided to make the box from inexpensive wooden yard sticks and stiff paper. This will be considered a character and hopefully will mount just as the robots did in front of the Green Screen.

The box will be about 15″ (38 cm) square. As with any character the box can be manipulated and re-sized using FX Studio. The box must appear to contain one of the robots so I wanted the size to be as close as possible to a real box that could hold the robot.

Ok- now why is John babbling about a crate? Well… imaging a crate, our hero (or villain) is sitting or hovering over the box after imprisioning his arch enemy (or a practical joke). The box moves and and the hero moves interdependently of the box and background, how do you accomplish this using limited editing tools and a great green screen app?

I’ll let you know after I complete the next Widget and Wingnut video.

      Mr. John in JAX

  20. John in JAX says:

    Graham,

I like Green Screen FX Studio. Thank you for adding the Import FX feature. I was wondering if you might be able to add a crop feature. Or a feature that isolates the character from the rest of the video frame.

If I can video the characters and isolate the character from the outside edges of the frame this might remove ghosting on the edges of the FX frame. This could also help others who hold props in their hands without suiting in green material.

That you should use your own special effect.

And to kind it look like you turn into something. I mean that you do so you look like you turned.

I purchased this app for our iPads at school (30 copies). I tested the application but after the recent update, the chromakey seems to be worse. I am not able to create a video in front of the green screen that doesn’t either cause parts of the person to disappear or have a green halo in different areas of the video. Please help because I have not had this problem doing green screen with a flip camera and iMovie application on my laptop. If this app is not able to chromakey correctly then I would appreciate a refund.

    • admin says:

I have used the FX Studio App with my 5th grade students in art class — students walk into an artists’ work. I create a movie clip in iMovie and import it for the background.
The problem I have is with the chroma control. It seems that either the students are disappearing or the green background is still in the clip. When we try to take out more of the green color the darker values in the students disappear also. It seems to be very blotchy — not crisp at all. Can you advise me?

    PLEASE READ CAREFULLY…

I went from totally frustrated/disappointed to completely happy…

The video or instructions are NOT really showing how to remove the green screen background !!!

    1) Make sure that your green screen background is not wrinkled.

    2) make sure that your green screen background is well lighted.

    3) make sure to put your talent/subject at least 6-7 feets from the green screen.

FAILURE TO NOT DO THE ABOVE WILL CREATE NASTY SPILLS ON YOUR SUBJECT/TALENT.

Also, make sure to run the chroma key procedure SEVERAL TIMES. Until you are ok with the results.
Play with the color strength SEVERAL TIMES to remove more green spillage.

THE BETTER YOU WILL LIGHT AND STAY FAR FROM YOUR SCREEN, THE LESS Chroma key procedure you will have to run…

    @THE DEV:

Thank you for this life saver app !!!
It’s just amazing that we can do $10000 green screen stuffs with an iPhone and an app !!!!!!!

    This is REVOLUTIONNARY !!!

    Suggestions:

    – Processing time is too long !!!
20mn HD Video takes at least 1h45mn on iPhone 5.
(But again, with the amazing result… Who’s complaining ??)

    – We need to be able to move the color selection’s box. (Up/down/right/left)

    – We need to be able to select of fx from other albums. Not only from the camera roll.

    – Can you improve or put an auto green/blue color removal ? Then the user can himself works on the details….

AGAIN, THANK YOU FOR YOUR REVOLUTIONARY APP…

Now WITH AN IPHONE we can do what CNN or ESPN does.

PLEASE go to youtube and search : eevangeliste to see my work, done with an iPhone and your app.

      Hi,

Sorry I had to add the new clipping tool as the original iOS built in one wouldn’t encode video at full 1080p quality and was reducing the quality of the final video.

I’m planning on updating the cropping tool soon so you can see the frames you are going to end up at in real time.
